Inspiration Market

I am delighted and filled with anticipation as I prepare for the Inspiration Market that is coming up THIS Sunday, January 28! Here is the scoop about this unique event. . .

What is the Inspiration Market?
The Inspiration Market is an event I created to share my artistic and creative process with people who are curious about what I do.  It's a great chance to put some color and energy back into your life and get out of the house.  Forget it's winter in Ohio for just a few hours!

What will we do?
You will have a front row seat to see some of the newest creations I've made.  You will have time to make a bit of inspiration for yourself or someone else.  There will be tea and cocoa.  If you see something you love you will have time to shop.  You will also learn about creative offerings of workshops and classes that will be held over the next few months.  The afternoon will wrap up with a yoga nidra for anyone who wants to participate.

What does it cost?
It's FREE!  I want to share what I'm doing with as many people as possible this year.  I want to offer you the opportunity to create and inspire along side me.  I want you to experience how amazing it feels to create and be within a group!

Who should attend?
You!  And bring a friend or two.  If you have been a loyal supporter, this is a little way for me to say thank you.  If you're looking to add some more creativity, whimsy, or inspiration to your life--this is for you.  If we have never met, but your just curious about art or art in Barberton or living a creative life, please join us.

What is yoga nidra?
It's a form of deep relaxation.  Some people call it yogic sleep because it is so refreshing and restorative.  We will warm up and breathe together for a few minutes, and then participants lie down on a yoga mat, get comfy, and listen as I guide your attention around to different points on your body.  You simply lie on the mat and relax.  If you have a yoga mat, blanket, and small pillow, bring them.  I also have yoga mats to share.

Intuitive Painting Mini Retreat

I had a great time today at an intuitive painting workshop!  I got to bring a bit of yoga, but I also got to enjoy being guided by another artist's process.  You can learn more about the experience HERE.  I love making art and sharing art!

Passages: A Year End Workshop of Beginnings

I am so excited to make this offering!  I am hosting a workshop that is a bit yoga and mindfulness, a bit art and creativity, and a bit ritual, goal setting, journaling and visioning the future in a gentle space with friends old and new.  Basically all of my favorites!

We will say farewell to the past year, and prepare to greet the new year with optimistic hope and a plan for be our best selves.

We will accomplish these goals by. . .

relaxing with some breathing, gentle stretching, and visualizing
decorating a journal
writing to a few prompts and webbing a plan
sipping tea and munching some treats
enjoying a warm space with open minded friends old and new

Yoga mat + blanket, pillow for knees, etc

      Find a painting that you like or set yourself free to create an abstract--either way I will offer                 words of encouragement!

Advanced registration is necessary to be sure I have all the supplies waiting for you!

You can return as many times as you need to complete your project.  I set up and clean up and offer gentle guidance.  All ages are welcome to join the gift making magic.  Kids under 12 need to be accompanied by an adult!

Looking For A Fun Holiday Event--Host A Creativity Party

Mum Painting Workshops for Children, Teens, and Adults

Mum Fest Weekend in Barberton is quickly approaching.  I will also be offering 2 stylized mum painting workshops in my art studio.  You will choose a color scheme you like, and use simple techniques to create a lovely piece of art on canvas using acrylic paints.  Painters are always welcome to go rogue and create something different, using the resources provided!

Children's Mum Painting Workshop
Saturday, 9/23, 11 a.m. - noon.  We will work on canvases that are 11 x 14 or 12 x 12 and using acrylic paints.  $20

Adult and Teen Mum Painting
Sunday, 9/24, 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.  We will work on canvases that are 16 x 20, or you can choose from smaller sizes, if you prefer.  We will use acrylic paints.  Light refreshments will be provided.  $25

Altered Book Art Parties

I am pleased to present another option for all you art party fans--ALTERED BOOKS!  I've mentioned this before, but I doubt if you know how really cool this is.

Here is the general idea:

First,
I collect children's board books and gesso them (basically paint them white) so that the papers, stickers, paint, tape, and fabrics you select will stick.  I bring to your party bins of papers, stickers, and lots of treasures and ephemera!

Then,
You can create an inspirational piece for yourself or someone else filled with quotes and other inspirational words or sayings.

You can create a "blank" book in which to journal at some future point in time.

You can create a vision board of what you wish to invite into your life.

or how about a year in review with photos and other memorabilia?!

The options are really only as limited as your imagination!

And guess what I was doing this afternoon--white washing or applying gesso to some of the books I've collected.  I'm getting ready for your altered book party!  What a fun way to spend a winter afternoon or evening with your friends--reCREATING one of a kind books!

July is Packed with Making and Showing and Selling Art

July 2016 is a busy month around here!

It's hard to believe how busy the next month is around here.  In addition to doing a few summer art camps with the Wayne Center for the Arts, hanging out with super Sam and enjoying the summer, I'm making and doing art like crazy!  Here are some of the highlights:

• July 2, 5:30 - 7:00, Papermaking Demo at Rubber City Prints in Summit ArtSpace as part of the Akron Art Walk, Akron, Ohio

{If you're looking for a full workshop where you can walk away with paper that you made, sign up for Rubber City Prints' Workshop "Dive Into Printing."  On July 19 we will do tons of papermaking for printing and other creative endeavors!}

• July 10, 1:00 - 4:00, Emanuel High Church Arts Festival, great prices on some of my paintings and paper creations Doylestown, Ohio

2015 Plein Air Painting and the flower bed that inspired it

• July 16 - 17,  Lakeside Plein Air Festival, Lakeside, Ohio  Many amazing artists participate in this event.  Paintings are for sale Sunday afternoon in Central Park.  One of my favorites every year!

There is always an assortment of old and new works in ACoT Studio 102 for 4th Friday

• July 22, 5:00 - 9:00  4th Friday Barberton, Ohio.  I will be in my studio, so stop in to see what is new, and I will have a communal mural in Nine Muses Gallery, where you can add to what I have started!

• (Tentative) July 30, 6:00 - midnight, Kent Potterfest, Kent, Ohio.  I will unveil dozens of new wands that I expect to fly off the table to begin enchanting the lives of many people!

Join Me for a Bit of Papermaking

You can make your very own cute handmade paper star!

In collaboration with Rubber City Prints I am doing a paper making demo this evening, July 2, 2016, at Summit Artspace as part of the Akron Art Walk.

Pop in after 5 and before 7 to participate, observe, ask questions, and maybe even get a little messy.

I've been making recycled paper longer than any other art form.  It keeps coming back into my life.  I use most of my paper in book arts and card designs.  It is a wonderful medium for printmaking, too!

Creative Recharging

One of the most powerful lessons I've learned in the past year is that I cannot create nonstop.  I cannot work on the same thing for a whole work day.  I cannot put in a 40 hour creative work week.  I must do a creative recharge.  {With the recharge I can sometimes do 50 or 60 hours of creating, and some very long days, but I have to know when and how to recharge.

The past few days I spent my time just being a mom, building drip castles, eating ice cream, beach combing for glass and shells  {and heart shaped rocks}, picnicing in the shadow of a light house, watching ridiculous cartoons, visiting fairy gardens, and the such.

I did not blog or write or paint or market my art or courses.  I just was.  I was doing a full on creative recharge.  [I fought this and resisted, but in the end I surrendered.]

I am now officially ready for my summer work to begin.  This week I start camp at the Wayne Center for the Arts.  I also start  Just 4 Girls Yoga:  Sheroes Series this Thursday.  Next week I start Meeting and Making Masterpieces, a kids' art class starts next Monday and Summer Camp for Teachers starts next Wednesday.  I'm also brewing a variety of projects around recycled/upcycled art and rumblings of writings.  {More revealed soon!}

I'm guiding two great workshops this month at ACoT.  They are perfect for teachers!  You can use what you learn with students of for your own creative expression.  They are open to EVERYONE--so bring your sister, neighbor, kids, best friends!


July 28, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., PAPERMAKING

Enjoy the process of making your own paper from recycled scraps using a dip method.  This paper is great for collages, book arts, cards, and other creative endeavors.  It's fun to make with children in a classroom, too.  After a demonstration you will be able to create and experiment and make as much paper as you like during this workshop.  $20   Sign up HERE

July 30, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m, BOOK ART


Have you ever wanted to make cook books for sketching or journaling or gifts.  This is the place for you!  We will learn simple book techniques that even young children can make.  I will show you a variety of samples of various cutting and sewing methods, and then you will create until your heart is content!  Most students will make 3 - 6 books or booklets.  $40, all materials are included.  Sign up HERE
